Poem – by OTL #2

If I had my life to live over,

I’d skip down city sidewalks singing,

Smiling at those who stare but can’t understand.

I’d eat more cotton candy and taffy apples

And forget about the extra pound.

I’d pattern myself less on what others think I am to be,

And run around more reckless and free

          Daring to be myself

          All of me.

If I had my life to live over,

I’d be less antiseptic and clean

Getting into the dirt and the mud,

          Being touched by the Earth.

I’d worry less about what classmates think

And raise my hand more just to give my opinion,

          Right or wrong,

          Do I care?

I’d work less for grades

          But more,

          Just to know.

If I had my life to live over,

I’d let the snow and the rain

          Slap my face and hands

And not bundle up to avoid being “touched”.

I’d roll in the leaves

          Ski through the snow

Sky-dive or walk a wing (maybe?)

          Sit on a mountain

          All because they are there.

I’d pray less from books

But raise my prayers from the voice

          In my heart.

I’d see God – not in Church,

But in you and in me,

In the water, sky, and tress and all.

If I had my life to live over,

I’d worry less about the mosquitoes

          That bite in the Summer,

And let the moon light and warm evening breeze

          Caress my skin.

I’d say what I believe

And less of what others want to hear.

I’d stop seeing my parents as other people,

          And treat them as friends.

If I had my life to live over,

I’d stop spending all day planning for tomorrow,

And live today as the only one that really matters.

I’d walk barefoot on the beach sooner in Spring,

          Sand between my toes.

I’d pick more daisies

“listening” to their faces and their smile

as they whisper love to me.

We all too often

          Exist until death

          But never really live.

We barricade out the elements,

          People,

          And feelings;

          Never experiencing

The best in joys and sorrows.

We die

          Never being “born”.

We are born dead,

Too late we find out it is over,

          And never did we live.

Come alive!

Let it in – and out!

Touch and be touched!

Now!

I am “born again”!

WORTH a THOUSAND WORDS #2

It is often said that- – –

“a picture is worth a thousand words”.

This series will be postings of a single picture.  May you find that the following photo speaks volumes and makes your mind travel deep within.

See & Listen

In the Dead of Winter - - Light

REFLECTION:

What words does this photo “speak” to you?

About you?    About how you live?    About how you spend your time?

About your past hopes & dreams?    About your plans for the future?

About the beauty you have experienced,

and the beauty you want to experience – in your life?

What are you doing to make all of that happen?

TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS

A World, a Life, Without Toxins - is Beautiful & Healthy

Each year it is good to take stock, to make a review, to offer an assessment of all the people in your life.  How do they add “life” to your life, or subtract from your living.  Each moment of life is a precious gift given only once.  There are only so many moments.  Never waste any of them with things or people that make you less than the “life filled” creature you are meant to be.  Life does not go on forever.  Even if it did, every moment wasted with “toxic” material is a moment less for you to live healthy and whole.  All moments are to be used well to help create the fullness and joy you are meant to be.

Are there people in your life;  neighbors, relatives, even immediate family members that pull you down, drain you emotionally or mentally whenever you spend time with them?  People that always see the negative, they criticize  and criticize never having a compliment to give anyone.  They constantly find fault.  They take joy and get satisfaction when others fail or fall from “grace”.  They don’t seem to believe anyone.  Even if shown the facts, they refuse to accept.  They would rather live in the world they self constructed mentally than in a world of truth.  They often come to meetings tearing down this or that idea, but have nothing constructive to offer for solutions. People who are not there to discuss an issue, they want to “convert” you to their way of thinking.  They know they are always right, and you better get on board.

If there are toxic people in your life who really drain energy from you, then you know how exhausting it is being around them.  They suck you dry.

Let them go.  Why put yourself in such a damaging place and position.  Why enable them to get to you time after time.  Life is way too short to waste it, even if some of these toxic people are family.  Would you hang around and become friends with such people if they were not relatives?  If not, why do it just because they are relatives and family.  Give yourself more respect.  Make the most of the moments you have been given.  Find people who contribute to and nurture your overall health.

Remove the toxic people from your social groups, from your address book, your email list, your Christmas card list, any and all of those “obligatory” get-togethers you think you have to have.  Why waste your time.  You are not going to change them.  You fool yourself if you think you can.  If that is the case then you have a problem.  Be  comfortable and confident enough in yourself to let go and not feel the need to keep them – –  and not feel guilty about letting go.

You are a precious gift to the Earth.  Don’t abuse yourself with less than worthy people.  If you do, you will find that you will be less of a gift for others.  The toxic people you keep in your life will rub off on you and in the worst case, you will become toxic to others. You will be complaining and negative to others about all the “downer” people in your life and then,  others will get tired of you.  If that happens to you – you will find yourself being labeled by others as a Toxic Person.  Wouldn’t that be sad?
